Is it Okay to Pass Edsa this Christmas Season?

Just thinking about the crowded roads of EDSA breaks my heart. From those early mornings where everyone is rushing to go to the office, right up to those busy nights where everyone is funneling their way home, the slow-moving traffic in Edsa is indeed a frustration for every driver that has ever encountered it.

Epifanio De Los Santos Avenue is formerly known as Highway 54, stretching 24km. from North Avenue, Quezon City to Taft Avenue, Manila. Given that the road is long and winding, it makes you wonder how the worst of traffic jams can occur in such an open highway.

Every year, as soon as you rip out the November page on your calendar, you welcome December, and it dawns on you: Christmas shopping, bazaars everywhere, night markets, Christmas party even on weekdays. Suddenly, you are just dreading to go out of your house to go anywhere that requires you to pass EDSA.

Knowing that EDSA is one of the major roads in the Philippines, you can reach any point of Metro Manila as long as you traverse the long road, and turning on to the correct stop. That is why it is not at all surprising if you constantly find yourself driving within the areas of EDSA during this Christmas season. Instead of feeling the holiday breeze, you inhale the smoke emitted by the cars and trucks passing through the same route.

But Metro Manila is a tricky place. You can still find yourself in an inconvenient situation even if you know the right routes to take. In 2010, MMDA had opened the Christmas Lanes, which are the alternate routes that helped decongest EDSA from this year’s December until next year’s January.

This year, the MMDA shall open the alternate routes once again in Metro Manila, to help alleviate the traffic madness during the Christmas rush. More build-ups are anticipated due to road works and interchange construction in C5.

Here is a list of routes you can take to get to your destination without having to pass along EDSA: http://www.motioncars.com/article.php?id=741
